Day 31/ 175 Field Trip- LC Bates Museum

I love that we can take impromptu trips and they can count as school.. Best part yet, they are fun days as a family!

Today we decided to head to a local museum that is about 30 mins from our house… and take a Guided Hike, and then learn about Beavers.

This museum has an amazing woman who just seems to have a huge amount of knowledge. I just love learning new things from her. She also has done a few classes at our Homeschool Co-op. The kids love her, and she is so good with them. Just amazing!
We were the only ones there for the Guided Hike in the morning, so we had the guide all to ourselves ; even better!  She decided to do a hike based on teaching the Monkey’s what kind of insects we could find along the way…  Here are some of our findings…

After returning from our hike, we took a quick trip around the Museum as we have never fully looked around. Saw some really cool stuff, learned a few things, and then got to see what Monkey Man had been waiting for. The cast of a Tyrannosaurs Rex Skull, that the Museum has on loan for a bit. Very impressive I must say!

After that we headed into the closest town, and had some lunch. We went to a family favorite, ate some boneless chicken and fries, and headed back for the Beaver Program.
The kids were just having so much fun learning… I was impressed with how much they already knew. Its great to hear them be able to answer questions, and know that they really do listen when I’m teaching! Lol!
The Beaver Program had a bit more people who joined us.  The kids learned about the habitat, and how beavers help keep homes for other animals. Then we went and saw a bit of a beaver damn…  Afterwards, they had a craft lined up for them. The monkey’s put together a nature journal with stamps of animals feet prints, a beaver puppet, and a beaver skull.

They had so much fun!  It was a great family day! Relaxing but so much knowledge. Great start to the year!
