Day 96/175

We took yesterday off, since I wasn’t feeling that well… and daddy was trying to get regular chores done for me so I wouldn’t fall behind. Plus Monkey Man got invited to go spend the night at a friends house.

Today we just went to a 4 hour Science Fair put on by a local College. This was our first year going to it, and we had heard many great things about it.

It didn’t disappoint that is for sure. Monkey Man was still at the friends so he missed it, but the girls and I had a great time. We even invited a friend who was on vacation from Public School.

Here are a few of the things we did….

So here you can see we tried to make a bridge… (not much luck) Then they tried to make a boat out of clay and see how many nickels they could get it in it before it sank. Then we got to check out some bones… Can you tell what that Skeleton is??

Day 93/175 Co-op Fun

Today we had Co-op in the morning...  The kids were pretty excited. Remember the volcano’s we made, that I posted here. While today we got to paint but ran out of time to erupt them. So that is on the agenda for next time.

However, before we could do that, we had a guest speaker. A local museum that doesn’t have heat during the winter (to help keep the costs down, I think they stay closed during winter)came to us. They came to talk about Rocks.. They will be coming in to talk to us over the next few weeks. My kids were pretty excited about that. As rocks are a huge enjoyment in our house.

Day 92/175 Messy Fun

Today we all worked on a project.

We belong to a local Co-op and this semester we are doing Rocks & Mineral’s and Ocean Life. They started with Rocks & Mineral’s. Last week they made Volcano’s from Paper Mache’.
Monkey Man was sick, so we didn’t make it to Co-op meaning that we had to catch up before this week’s meeting.

So today I got brave, and with my friend and her son we made Paper Mache’ volcano’s! (secretly I was excited to do this) It didn’t go to bad. I was rather proud of us. Here are our partly finished Volcano’s… we will be doing more with them tomorrow, so be sure to check back!

Getting in some Phys Ed

One of the great things about Home-schooling is that you doing have to sit in a classroom all day long to get your classes in.

After a long week, of being stuck inside due to sick kids and some really cold weather.. we ventured out to play with some friends.

100_2778

100_2782

100_2788

I’m pretty sure it is safe to say that we got our exercise in today. We went sledding with friends, which you can read more about here. Where you had to walk anywhere from a 1/4 of a mile, to a 1/2 mile to get back up the trail. My legs were like jelly by the end!

What fun we had though!!

Our new and improved school room

As I have mentioned Home-schooling is new to us… and so we have been slowly trying to figure out how to get organized, and function.

Over the last few weeks we have been working on a better and more functional school room.

I wanted to share the pictures of what it now looks like!

IMG00061-20110209-0825

Here you can see our big long school table. Oh, how I love the table. Its big enough for us all to sit there… and great for when we sit and do projects. In the background, you can see our white board (great for writing the date, and anything I want them to see for a while) our cubby shelf. Which I personally love! Makes storing things by subject, or kind so much easier! Yes, that is a T.V. you see, which is strictly used for educational purposes only! Then you might notice the desk off to the other side… that is my storage space, and we have  a computer on it…for the kids to use, for educational things.

IMG00062-20110209-0825

Then I put up a big bookcase, that I use to help me store my curriculum.. Spare folders, paper, and notebooks. See the two baskets.. The green one is our books. So the kids know what they are allowed to read during school time. Then the other basket is to keep our library books in. That way there is no searching for them when its time to return them! (or that is my hope anyway)

There you have our room. I’m very happy with it so far!

Would love to see anyone else’s room, if you want to leave me a link to yours! Always love to get ideas from others!

Welcome

Hi! We started home-schooling about 4 months ago…. and it has been a pretty big challenge for me. Well, for the first few months anyway!

The best advice I can give to any new Home-schooling parents is…. “Don’t over think it.”   I was told this many times, but it didn’t really sink in until lately.  I finally realized the more I let things just happen or didn’t try so hard we had much better luck.

I wanted to start this blog… one cause I love to blog! Feel free to stop by my other blog 3 Crazy Monkey’s (here you can read about our crazy life and product reviews).. Secondly, I wanted to write this blog to help keep a journal of our adventure. I want us to be able to look back at when we made the best decision for our family.

With that being said.. here you will see our list of favorite sites, books, and curriculum as we come across them. We will also tell you about some of our days, as well as Field trips we take. Adventures are never dull in this house!

So join us if you would like to know what it is like to just jump into Home-schooling! Or if you want to hear about some of our products, and what we think of them!
